Black Budget: Government funding allocated to classified programs whose details are hidden from public oversight and often from Congress itself. Black Project: A highly classified military or intelligence project whose existence is denied or obscured by the government. The SR-71 Blackbird, stealth aircraft, and numerous weapons programs started as black projects. Many UFO sightings are believed to be misidentified black project test flights. Brownstone Operation: An alleged intelligence tactic where targets are lured into compromising sexual situations -- often involving minors -- which are secretly recorded and used as blackmail leverage. Chemtrails: The theory that the white condensation trails left by aircraft are actually chemical or biological agents deliberately sprayed on populations for purposes ranging from weather modification to population control. CIA (Central Intelligence Agency): The United States' primary foreign intelligence agency, founded in 1947. Close Encounter: A taxonomy developed by astronomer J. Allen Hynek to classify UFO sightings by proximity: CE1 (visual sighting within 500 feet), CE2 (physical evidence left behind), CE3 (occupants observed), CE4 (abduction), and CE5 (direct communication). COINTELPRO: The FBI's Counter Intelligence Program (1956-1971), a series of covert and often illegal operations targeting domestic political organizations deemed subversive. Compartmentalization: The intelligence practice of restricting information access so that individuals only know what they need for their specific role. Controlled Opposition: A strategy where a power structure covertly creates or co-opts opposition movements to control the narrative and prevent genuine resistance from forming. Cover-up: The deliberate concealment of evidence, information, or criminal activity by those in authority. Crisis Actor: A person allegedly hired to play the role of a victim or witness at a staged event, particularly mass shootings or terrorist attacks. Dead Man's Switch: A mechanism designed to automatically release damaging information if the person holding it dies or is incapacitated. Whistleblowers and intelligence operatives allegedly use these as insurance policies against assassination. Julian Assange famously maintained one for WikiLeaks. Declassified: The process by which classified government documents are released to the public, typically after a mandated time period or through FOIA requests. Depopulation: The alleged agenda by global elites to drastically reduce the world's population through vaccines, engineered pandemics, food supply manipulation, or environmental catastrophes. Disclosure: In UFO circles, the long-anticipated moment when governments officially acknowledge the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence. Down the Rabbit Hole: Borrowed from Alice in Wonderland, the phrase describes the experience of following one conspiracy theory into an ever-deepening web of interconnected theories. False Flag: An operation designed to appear as though it was carried out by a group other than the one actually responsible. The term originates from naval warfare, where ships would fly enemy flags to get close before attacking. Confirmed historical false flags include the Gulf of Tonkin incident and Operation Gladio. FOIA (Freedom of Information Act): The 1966 U.S. federal law giving citizens the right to request access to government records. Follow the Money: The investigative principle -- attributed to Watergate's Deep Throat -- that financial trails reveal the true motives and architects behind events. In conspiracy analysis, unusual financial activity (like pre-9/11 put options on airline stocks) is treated as a primary indicator of foreknowledge or orchestration. Gaslighting: A form of psychological manipulation where a person or institution makes someone question their own perception of reality. Named after the 1944 film Gaslight, the term is used in conspiracy discourse to describe government and media attempts to convince the public that what they see with their own eyes isn't real. Glow / Glowie / Glowposting: Internet slang for federal agents or informants operating in online spaces, derived from the late programmer Terry Davis's claim that CIA agents "glow in the dark." Great Reset: Originally a World Economic Forum initiative proposed in 2020 to rebuild the economy post-COVID, the Great Reset has been reinterpreted by conspiracy theorists as a plot by global elites to abolish private ownership, impose digital currencies, and establish a technocratic world government. HAARP: The High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program, a U.S. military research facility in Alaska that studies the ionosphere. Conspiracy theorists allege it's actually a weather weapon, earthquake generator, or mind control device, making it the Swiss Army knife of conspiracy technology. Honey Trap: An intelligence operation that uses romantic or sexual entanglement to compromise a target, gather intelligence, or create blackmail material. Honeypot: A trap set to detect, deflect, or counteract unauthorized use of information systems, or more broadly, any enticement designed to lure targets into revealing themselves. Illuminati: Originally the Bavarian Illuminati, a secret Enlightenment-era society founded in 1776 by Adam Weishaupt. In modern usage, it's a catch-all for the alleged secret ruling elite who control world events through banking, media, and government from behind the scenes. Infiltration: The act of covertly placing agents within an organization to monitor, disrupt, or control it from within. Declassified documents prove the FBI and CIA infiltrated civil rights groups, antiwar movements, labor unions, and political parties throughout the 20th century. Kompromat: Russian term for compromising material collected on a person of interest -- typically sexual, financial, or criminal evidence -- used for blackmail or political leverage. Leak: The unauthorized release of classified or confidential information, usually by an insider. Limited Hangout: A CIA-coined term for a damage control strategy where some true but relatively harmless information is deliberately released to prevent the exposure of more damaging secrets. Manchurian Candidate: A brainwashed sleeper agent programmed to carry out assassinations or other acts on command, triggered by a specific stimulus. Named after the 1959 novel and 1962 film, the concept became disturbingly plausible after MKUltra documents revealed the CIA was actually trying to create one. Memory Hole: From George Orwell's 1984, a mechanism for destroying inconvenient historical records. In conspiracy discourse, it describes the systematic erasure of information from public consciousness -- deleted articles, scrubbed archives, revised history. MKUltra: The CIA's notorious mind control program (1953-1973) involving LSD experiments, sensory deprivation, hypnosis, and psychological torture conducted on unwitting subjects. Need to Know: The security principle that access to classified information should be restricted to those who require it for their official duties, regardless of their clearance level. New World Order: The theory that a secretive elite is working to establish a single authoritarian world government, replacing sovereign nation-states. Paper Trail: Documentary evidence -- financial records, memos, emails, receipts -- that links people and organizations to specific actions. Q Drop: A cryptic message posted by the anonymous figure "Q" on imageboard sites, claiming to be a government insider with knowledge of a secret war between Donald Trump and a global cabal. Rabbit Hole: A sprawling, interconnected web of conspiracy theories that a researcher descends into, each discovery leading to deeper and more complex layers. The metaphor captures how one question about, say, the JFK assassination can lead through CIA operations, organized crime, Cuban exile politics, and the military-industrial complex. Red Pill / Blue Pill: From The Matrix (1999): taking the red pill means choosing to see uncomfortable truths about reality, while the blue pill means remaining in comfortable ignorance. Redacted: The blacking out of sensitive information in declassified documents. Those thick black bars across government files have become an iconic symbol of institutional secrecy. Revelation of the Method: The theory that the ruling elite deliberately reveal their plans and methods through symbolism, media, and public statements -- not as warnings but as a form of ritualistic mockery. Rug Pull: In cryptocurrency, a scam where developers abandon a project and run off with investors' funds after artificially inflating the token's value. SAP (Special Access Program): A classification level above Top Secret that imposes additional access controls and safeguards. SAPs are so restricted that even members of Congress with Top Secret clearance may be denied access. Satoshi Nakamoto: The pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin whose true identity remains unknown. Satoshi published the Bitcoin white paper in 2008, developed the original software, and then vanished in 2011. Shadow Government: The theory that real political power resides not with elected officials but with an unaccountable network of intelligence agencies, military brass, corporate executives, and financial institutions that persists across administrations and operates beyond democratic oversight. Shill: Someone who promotes a particular narrative or product while pretending to be an independent, unbiased party. In conspiracy forums, accusing someone of being a shill is the nuclear option -- it implies they're a paid operative working to suppress truth and protect powerful interests. Sleeper Agent: A spy or operative who is placed in a target country or organization and lives a normal life -- sometimes for years or decades -- until activated to carry out a mission. Top Secret: The highest standard classification level in the U.S. system, applied to information whose unauthorized disclosure could cause "exceptionally grave damage" to national security. UAP (Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena): The rebranded, officially sanctioned term replacing "UFO," adopted by the Pentagon and Congress beginning in 2022. The shift from "flying objects" to "anomalous phenomena" was deliberate -- it encompasses underwater and transmedium sightings and strips away decades of UFO stigma. UFO (Unidentified Flying Object): Any aerial phenomenon that cannot be immediately identified by the observer.
